Spring
Island
Spring Island, Beaufort, South Carolina…the last of
the great, private sea islands on the Atlantic Coast and where
the future is connected to the past…everyday. Twelve generations
of private owners, spanning more than three centuries, have
helped to preserve, mold and enhance this land with a gentle
passion which is everywhere evident today: along the winding
sandy roads, in the dense, primordial Live Oak Forest, in the
freshwater ponds which dot the island’s rim and in the historic
Tabby Ruins, which have become symbolic of the island itself.
The vision for Spring Island is very simple-to preserve the
character and the pulse which has emerged here over the
centuries; to blend the natural setting, peace and privacy of
island living from a bygone era with the convenience and
contemporary comfort of today. The effect will remain that of a
few families sharing ownership of a private, sea island
wilderness park.

The rippling tides of the coastal rivers help shape
the events of daily life in the South Carolina Low Country. From

of preserving the island’s historical heritage and pristine
natural surroundings. As you cross the causeway to Callawassie
Island, you know immediately you’ve discovered a special place.
With its 11 miles of shoreline, this 880-acre sea island sits in
the heart of the Colleton River marshlands, made famous in Pat

culture, was found here at Pleasant Point Plantation. Not quite
300 years later, the residents of Pleasant Point Plantation find
a lifestyle, while perhaps not the equal to the plantation days
of old, however one that still presents a quality second to none
in the Beaufort area. The country club of Beaufort is the
centerpiece of Pleasant Point Plantation, which offers a
beautiful 18-hole golf course which winds through ancient oaks,
wide marshes, past ponds and lake with herons, egrets and an

tidal creeks, fairways, tees and greens of the country club.

landscape of Beaufort, South Carolina. From the welcoming tower
at its entrance to the generous green spaces throughout, Celadon
offers calming walks and beautiful destinations for residents
and visitors alike.
By gracious design, a mere five minutes is time enough to
walk from home to the village center for a paper or a coffee, to
pick up the mail at the neighborhood post office or to meet a
child or grandchild just out of school. But then again, the
singular beauty of Celadon creates both temptation and
opportunity to transform a walk into a stroll. Five minutes can
stretch to twenty if you decide to visit wildlife at the lagoon
or fail to resist the filtered shade of the spreading trees so
generously preserved throughout. Streets bend and curve around
native trees and green spaces inviting a leisurely slowness of
pace.
